I'm a bit worried there may be confusion on whether someone should report their intentional tulpamancy experiences when the survey seems to be looking for naturally occurring things
4:27 PM
like someone might put a 5 on one because "Yes I've definitely seen and felt my tulpa!" when it's basically talking about naturally occurring hallucinations and stuff, but they're talking about imposition (edited)
4:29 PM
I see the survey as surveying whether people experiencing tulpamancy naturally see/feel/etc. hallucinations and other such things
4:29 PM
so you can see why, when taken that way, people putting 5's due to imposition and such would be rather damaging..
4:30 PM
Try and only put yes on those if your tulpas were natural/spontaneous and actually do these things without your conscious awareness, maybe

Finally, part 2 of my switching experiences study is ready! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSecwBDE6Y3BT4v23kIxmEk_F3m_2Wwoq055ODXek9HaOAoZng/viewform?usp=sf_link This is a follow-up to another study I conducted on switching, primiarily in the tulpa community, about a year ago. You can find the write-up here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wnp7bIrnCCmusFBJNPiSkWvl9szAGJgyxEiKnKRUxNc/edit# Basically, in the first study, I was able to identify different types of things people call "switching", and a few very basic trends. But now, I hope to survey a wider audience, and discover more about what makes each of these kinds of switching work, if they're even separate or the same thing, how they differ across demographics, and more. Please read the types carefully, and answer the free-response questions with as much detail as possible. Hopefully, this data will allow systems of all types to learn more about switching, and even how to perform different kinds. Thank you!

Hey all, am I currently in the process of writing an essay about cultural appropriation and the Tulpamancy community. I understand this is a sensitive topic, so if moderators delete this, I fully understand. Anybody who answers will be featured in an essay, and it is completel...

Question for a research idea, if anyone’s online
5:30 AM
Has anyone ever found a connection between tulpas and sleep paralysis?
Avatar
A long kiss goodnight 7/1/2020 5:49 AM
My host had one episode of sleep paralysis and had less extreme episodes later, but otherwise no. I think that's an interesting idea though.
Avatar
Fourfiction 7/1/2020 5:51 AM
In my experience, it seems that my messing with dozens of tulpas brought it about
5:51 AM
But I can’t straight up ‘prove’ the connection of course lol
Avatar
yes, i had some experiences
11:19 AM
prior to creating kai, it repeated a few times with varying severity. the first time was extremely scary
11:20 AM
i asked kai to hold me if it happens again, and he did on a few occasions
11:21 AM
i pretty much learned to handle it in a few ways, including kai's help (edited)
11:21 AM
and since then, the episodes became less frequent and less severe
11:22 AM
what completely killed them was a devious plan we came up with though
11:23 AM
we were trying to learn lucid dreaming at the time, and i got the idea to use sleep paralysis as a sure way to kickstart a lucid dream
11:25 AM
you know, the symptoms are very distinct and a sure way to know i'm dreaming
11:26 AM
but i never had an episode since
11:27 AM
what's been proven to make you prone to having an episode is poor sleep hygiene
11:28 AM
like being woken up from the verge of sleep multiple times a night
11:29 AM
sleeping on your back, high room temperature, too much blue light or stimulants in the evening
11:30 AM
i wouldn't worry too much about it being connected with tulpas, at least not until you rule out these factors
Avatar
Lumi: Never had sleep paralysis before, despite attempting lucid dreaming for like 9 years now. Tulpa activity hasn't affected my sleep at all. My brain just refuses to mix up waking and sleeping states, and nothing I've ever done has changed that unfortunately (edited)

Fourfiction 7/1/2020 6:07 PM
I’ve found that sleep paralysis almost ALWAYS happens if I sleep on my stomach. Side sleeping is fine, but my whole life I always slept on my stomach so it took some adjusting lol

I often intentionally give myself sleep paralysis as part of WILD, but I never get scary hallucinations during it, only benign and sometimes nice hallucinations. I have never gotten sleep paralysis unintentionally though, even though I normally sleep on my back. my tulpa does often appear in my dreams though, and a couple times when she appeared she knew that it was a dream and was able to make me lucid
Avatar
We don't have sleep paralysis often, but it often happens to us if we do FILD, which is a form of WILD afaik. No hallucinations.
6:42 PM
I think the old hags and aliens are the product of people being scared and not knowing what's happening. Once you know about sleep paralysis, and especially when you expect it and don't believe in any boogyman...
Avatar
Fourfiction 7/1/2020 7:01 PM
JGC yeah I don’t see demonic shit anymore, I just feel the paralysis onset and the fear and dread approaching so I roll over and reset my body basically. It’s more of a slight nuisance now, it’s livable.
Avatar
you definitely shouldn't sleep on your belly :(
10:25 PM
it's bad for your breathing
10:26 PM
and bad breathing often leads to sleep paralysis
10:27 PM
my worst episode was scary because it also involved something called "continuity" and a few false awakenings
Avatar
so that's how i can induce sleep paralysis in myself
Avatar
i actually woke up after a nightmare and looked around the room. that gave me a fresh mental image of it. i then tried not to fall asleep because i was afraid i'd go straight back to the nightmare. oh, trying to stay awake with your eyes open is also one thing that can trigger it.
Avatar
Maybe this should go in another channel
Avatar
this created a mood of apprehension which is also a common trigger
10:31 PM
and at some point i must've fallen asleep without realising it, because as i was laying in my bed and looking around the room, crazy shit started happening right before my eyes
10:32 PM
that's the "continuity" thing. it's not just falling asleep without realising it. it's when your dream is a continuation of the reality you were in before sleep
10:33 PM
i first saw the door opening and someone peeking at me from behind it
10:34 PM
i tried to move but i couldn't even speak
10:34 PM
so i started to struggle against it and force my body to move, another terrible idea if this sort of thing happens to you
10:35 PM
it just makes you panic and the visions tap right into your fight or flight instincts
10:36 PM
i managed to wake up. the then fucking pyramid head from silent hill stood in my room
10:37 PM
i woke up again, and i was my flatmate standing in front of my bed and staring straight into a wall, completely unresponsive as i was trying to force myself to scream for help
10:38 PM
oh, calling people you know are nearby for help, also turns out it's a bad idea
10:38 PM
the most messed up thing came a few false awakenings later
10:40 PM
the door to my room silently unhinged themself and slowly floated toward my bed. it sort of stood next to me for a few minutes, then slowly, almost mechanically rotated, without making a sound, and floated flat over me in my bed
10:40 PM
and started to float downward on me, agonisingly slow

(try not to talk so much in #tulpa-research, maybe go to #lounge or #tulpa-discussion if things turn into a conversation)

Fourfiction 7/2/2020 3:01 AM
Worst sleep paralysis episode I ever had was 30+ false awakenings back to back. I would literally wake up, realize reality is a dream within a few seconds, and then wake up again. For 30+ times. I only know it’s 30+ because I gave up counting after that. If I had to guess I would say is was about 40. It was fucking unreal. I literally spent the whole day waiting to wake up.

Is there any evidence to support a tulpa having a different IQ than their host?
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 9/6/2020 7:48 AM
evidence? no
7:48 AM
is it possible? probably
7:48 AM
IQ is a meme

GlassFirefly 9/6/2020 11:23 PM
I know some tulpas that act like they are more intelligent than their host so maybe it's possible
Avatar
Hector Osaka 9/7/2020 11:49 AM
As a tulpa myself, I doubt it
11:49 AM
You share a brain.
11:49 AM
With that said, you can be better at certain things than another headmate
11:50 AM
But that has nothing to do with general intelligence
Avatar
Someone could end up being better at something than another, that doesn’t mean they have a higher IQ though
1:06 PM
Just have more skill in a subject than another.
1:07 PM
For example someone could be better at math purely because they have personality traits that helps them, like being better at focusing

Hector Osaka 9/7/2020 5:58 PM
Exactly

I hope this will be the right place for it
8:34 PM
But recently, I drew a line between Agent Cultivation(heh) and Religion...
8:35 PM
Not from researching various articles or the meltingasphalt series on deviant minds etc
8:35 PM
But if anyone here is or was christian in any way, I'd love to get feedback on this line of thought
8:35 PM
Basically it goes like this:
8:37 PM
  • Have a Strong Conception/mental image of God/Jesus/Holy Ghost (mormons have that in spades)
    • Stress that God is Real, not metaphorical. No philosophy woo bullshit, either god exists or doesn't
-- (The Operating assumption being that God does, in fact exist, cares about you, and will communicate to you)
8:38 PM
  • Be taught to read scripture and "listen" for inspiration while reading it -- (The Operating assumption being that, when you're ready, god will come in and talk to you and tell you "yes, this is true" or give you some kind of inspiration leading you to that conclusion)
(edited)
8:39 PM
  • Be Taught that as part of his infinite love for you, God will Speak to you, individually, because he's omni-everything, especially if you pray and/or reach out to him.
8:40 PM
Start praying/talking to god/thinking about religiousy things, trying to "listen"
8:40 PM
This, from my research, is effectively, what forcing is.
8:40 PM
There's more nuance of course, it's not the full picture.
Avatar
I think #tulpa-discussion would be the best place for a theory like this at the moment
Avatar
That is exactly what forcing is which is why I believe anyone who is heavily religious has a god tulpa and people that hear him just have a vocal god tulpa
8:55 PM
I feel like it’s relevant to mention I am extremely atheist
Avatar
I'm interested in hearing if anyone here feels or know someone else other than myself who went through this similar process and feels like they developed a god tulpa
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 10/5/2020 4:01 AM
@Zoru You should look into Tanya Luhrmann's research. She's written quite a bit on this subject. Not coincidentally, she's in charge of the current Stanford study on tulpas.
